Hey Ladies!
I know some of you have been waiting all day for this post. Trust, I am so ready to share why it’s important to put your outerwear to a multi-use fashion kill. Let’s be real, unless you live in Chicago, you buy these coats for a two to three month wear. Considering we are living in a pandemic, some of us have hardly worn a coat at all. Nevertheless, we spend a fair amount of money on a seasonal piece that seems one-dimensional. In my style book, it is far from one-dimensional. A coat is an open dress. A dress. Depending on the length it could be a mini, and classic knee-length, and most definitely and mysterious ankle toucher.
As a plus-size woman, I have been strutting the streets with my coat dress since 2014! After this post, I advise you to not let me strut alone. First, always keep your eyes open for trenches and oversized coats. Always size two or three sizes bigger. This will give you wrapping and styling room. Let’s not even mention, sweater room, right? When putting your coat dress on give it a double-breasted wrapping. This solely speaks to a feminine structure and most importantly a side split. I know those of you who are wide-hipped and big thighed, are turned off by that side split, as it may show the goods, right? I gotchu. This is where you discretely hold it with an extra-large safety pin or a gaudy brooch for an extra hint of pizzazz. Belt it and wear it! If someone ever asks what you’re wearing underneath your coat, tell them Shenell said, “My outerwear is my outfit.” FYI I’m wearing this straight to his office cheers! Stay tuned for my next few IG post where I’m dressing the coat.
