The Lookbook
In Formation, history reigns supreme. I am the epitome of my mother, her mother, and her mother’s- mother. My curves are the jewels of my heirloom, we are rich and it does my body good. I am the proud inheritor of thickness. My breast, my legs, and my derrière are the reason they call me onore. (Translation endowed)
“I am not a Prisoner of my body”
In Formation, I will never accuse my body of being shackles to my beauty. There is liberty to every roll and curve my body possess. My silhouette is not a hindrance to anything or anyone I want. I will not succumb to the bondages of society, that my beauty is not enough and my body is not enough. I rebuke weight, size, and shape captivity, because I am beautifully and perfectly made. My flaws and imperfections add distinction to my stature, this work of art. I am she, I am her, I am Tout famn. (Translation, every woman)
“No, this body isn’t universal, but neither is their preference”
In Formation, I understand that I am not everyone’s preference. This is not a concern I harbor. My body attracts only the exclusive. This body is not universal, but my curves are represented to the ends of the Earth. You’ve seen me once you’ve seen me again-UNBOTHERED. I demand your respect and eliminate your preference! Slow down, you don’t love me like I love me, bow down cause this body’s unapologetic, “Ou pa bezwen bay regre.” (Translation, “no pardons necessary”)
“My tummy chub, my thighs rub, yes I’m thick and I own it”
In Formation, we call these attributes, assets, voluptuous, beautiful, feminine, warm, succulent, juicy, squeezable, enjoyable, tempting, soft, gentle, cuddly, sassy, sexy, classy, grown, and womanly. Her initials read B.B.W. checkmate. Yon fanm ki gen plus. (Translation, A woman of body)
“Strut your curves or get eliminated”
In Formation, I am proud of my body. My structure is monumental. What others think about me means NOTHING and what I think of myself is EVERYTHING. I have no time for peasantry behavior of silhouette comparisons. My body is worth seeing. My body is DOPE, to show the world makes the world DOPE. Every strut has its own rhythm-natural and fluid. I will not await approval, because I am the approver. My strut is life, my strut is strong, my strut is powerful, my strut is curvy, my strut is confident, konman mwen mache se tout mwen mem.(Translation, my strut is me)
“Me and my curves, we are a movement”
In Formation, I march strongly in place with the DIVA breast plate mounted to my chest, preparing to press forward. With every movement, one by one inequality becomes a casualty. We march to a bass drum so loud, it beats down the enemy’s self-hatred and self-destruction. I am constantly in position to fight the war of self-love and respect. The word lose in any form is foreign to the tongue of a victor. This is your warning, don’t hurt yourself. Do you hear that? The sound of our stiletto’s stomping curves into the Earth. If it were not for us the world would be a straight path, hence forgettable. We move like snipers, with ease and precision, my target will be GOT! Me and my curves have arrived and nou la pou rete. (Translated, we are here to stay)

“I am not a Prisoner of my body”
Exhaust society says to be beautiful you have to be a size 0-6 …. or our society says you aren’t beautiful if you’re “big” or don’t have a slim waist, big butt, perky breast, and a skin free of stretch marks. I’ve looked at myself far too long ashamed of my size but not any longer. I work out to be healthy and if I lose weight that’s a plus. But I’m owning my body and all that comes with it.
“Be your own BEAUTIFUL”

“Strut your curves or get eliminated”
is my favorite pledge. I embody everything that this stands for. I do not await approval from others. The only opinion that matters is my own. My body is bold; my stance is curvaceous, my hips are wide, my derrière is solid, all wrapped in a 190lb frame. I embrace who I am and I love every inch of me. This look book is so important and relevant. It is rich in confidence and demands respect. When we look into the mirror we have to love and be okay with what we see. If you don’t see it don’t wait on the world to show you. Just the other day my doctor actually labeled me obese. Sir, I’m an adult in my early 30s. If I weighed 130lbs like I did in my early 20s I would look ill. Loving yourself is a must, if I listened to my doctor when he called me obese I might have skipped meals to fit what society deems as healthy i.e. being skinny. As you so beautifully put it, ” I am the approver.”
