Slippin Back In

Yes, I am totally blowing the dust off this blog, lol! Girl, I’ve missed you. I thank you for sticking around in my absence. Your loyalty is real and most appreciated. With all that has happened in the world you are still connecting. That’s not easy to do. So many people isolate in times like these. As a believer, I know God is gracious despite the horrific challenges 2020 has offered us. I think this year has shown our resilience and ability to press through as individuals and collectively. We are stronger than we think. So many of you dm’d me just to check on my well-being. Having a tribe like you reminds me that we are in this together,...

Proceed with Caution, Industrial Fashion Ahead!

As we cautiously veer into the left lane, lets take a moment to think. What has fashion come to? Utility wear is definitely going from hard at work to blazing the runway. Who would have thought road work inspired wear would continue to evolve as it has. I bought this Off-White belt in March of this year. I took me a while to figure out how I wanted to handle it so to speak. Jeans were an option, a pant suit, and of course leather, but I was trapped somewhere between faux fur and tulle. Mixing hard and soft intrigued my fashion curiosity, so I did it! Wide and fluffy tulle would swallow the belt. Pairing this BCBG skirt with...

The Black Women’s Expo: Beauty, Branding, & Blogging

I wasn't the perfect panelist for The Black Women's Expo.. so I thought. When I was asked to join the panel for such a huge event I gave the side eye. Then to make it even more troubling, the focused topic was blogging & how to make it a successful business( oh lawd). I struggled with whether or not I qualified for this  topic at this time. Blogging and success did not quite calibrate on my scale as equal parts. Calculating how much I’ve invested versus how much I’ve profited seem to be more reason why I should not speak. Blogging is a difficult and time consuming job, even more so when you’re turning a passion into a business. My...

Brim Meets the Neck

So, this look is fairly basic. There are no abstract prints, rocking fringe or over accessorized novelties. What makes this look a magnet of interest is the analogous color pallet (colors directly beside each other on the color wheel. In this case mine are blue, purple and fuchsia), extremely chic frame work and how the brim meets the hat. Now, lets talk mysterious, shall we? Often times people feel one must have all the bells and whistles to emerge mystic. If that is you, allow me to redirect your thinking. Structure and fabric exaggerations are chosen’s as it relates to a more discrete description of mysterious. Alexander McQueen mastered this art. In the beginning of his career his textiles were extremely...

Who Runs

Fall is finally here and I'm beyond ecstatic about all of the amazing styles coming out. Yes, we are fresh into fall, but still getting summer vibes. Today in Chicago, it was 90 degrees, which is insane! The weather is definitely pms-ing. Like I tell anyone, transitional pieces will help balance some of the weather emoing. This utility jacket from ASOS is the perfect transitional piece. The color screams fall and the weight of it says, have me in any season. They should have named it 4 seasons. So, I'm sure you realized I called this cutie a jacket. Yep, that's exactly what it is. Lets just say I was in the mood to jump into my sexy inspector Gadget-...

Bud Billiken Style

Exactly two weeks ago today, August 12th I made history along with Chance the Rapper as the first plus size blogger in the worlds largest African American parade, The Bud Billiken parade. The parade focuses on the development of CPS for inner city children by giving back to the African American community. This years parade theme paid homage to Hometown Heroes. Now before entering I wasn't familiar with the theme, but how befitting I thought. For the past 11 years I've dedicated my life to saving others mental, emotional, physical, trendy, and fashionable well being. Every time I've influenced growth in someone by simply being me- a transparent display of what a real plus size woman looks, sounds, and behaves...

Chi in Brooklyn

First of all you already know I am a Chicagoan from the core of my heart. Ain't no city like my city, I'm just sayin ya heard hahaha. However, I can't deny I make Brooklyn look real good in this hella dope super chic-fem tee. I'm sure Rachel Roy agrees. Keeping my street chic trend live, wasn't that hard, but the challenge was to be clever about it. I wasn't interested in dressing my tee down, just not the #mood, but when I spotted this Rachel Roy woven fitted skirt, I knew I'd be nothing shy of Dougie Fresh. I'd like to think, if girls had a hood of our own, chicks would be dressed just like this, what you...
