Rhythm In The Mix

It’s that moment you’re strolling on Instagram and see an item YOU GOTTA HAVE! You have no earthly idea exactly what you’re gonna do with it but whatever it is, it needs to be epic. Do you feel me right now? Girl, these slacks are it! When I got home, I laid them out on my bed for 4 or 5 days. I typically do this to allow myself to see what the garment-any garment, is asking me to do with it. "What you want to do with a particular garment never trumps what the garment calls for". Although, I had not yet known what other garments would accompany such an in-your-face type of pattern, by day 3, at minimum,...

My Outerwear Is My Outfit

Hey Ladies! I know some of you have been waiting all day for this post. Trust, I am so ready to share why it's important to put your outerwear to a multi-use fashion kill. Let's be real, unless you live in Chicago, you buy these coats for a two to three month wear. Considering we are living in a pandemic, some of us have hardly worn a coat at all. Nevertheless, we spend a fair amount of money on a seasonal piece that seems one-dimensional. In my style book, it is far from one-dimensional. A coat is an open dress. A dress. Depending on the length it could be a mini, and classic knee-length, and most definitely and mysterious ankle toucher....

Caramel Latte-Double Shot

Do you see this look RIGHT HERE?! When my insta-bestie, Summar suggested we do a cream and chocolate ensemble, I honestly didn’t expect the wardrobing to present so distinct and polished. The styling is blazing with boss vibes and richness. If no other fit I’ve worn suggests lifestyle, this look undoubtedly does! How did I execute such an elevated outfit? For starters, I really wanted the outfit to deliver more cream-latte than coffee or mocha, because cream, winter white, and beige are just so gorgeous during the winter season. I think the last time I actually embarked on a look like this was two or three years ago. That said, with my second attempt to go winter white, I did not...

Iconic In Tweed

I know you’ve seen several of my post on Instagram lately. Yes, I am a few blog posts behind; no worries, I am making up for it right now! About this look; if someone were to ask me what my style is, I would put this very look on display. Girl, it helps me not have to use words to describe myself. In this look, I played with texture, patterns, and color. This look is luxuriously distinct-exactly how I prefer to be! I’m looking really iconic in tweed if I can say so myself! Now, is it me or does this outfit take you to Harlem, anywhere between 1940s-2021? It definitely takes me there! If you were to break this ensemble...

The Layered Trench

Hey Girl, Its been a few weeks since I’ve returned to blogging. I hope I haven’t disappointed you. I’m pretty proud of what I’ve been bringing. So, as you can see, I decided to go the casual route. This is not my typical style sense. I usually feel under-dressed every time I attempt to curate a casual look. This time, not so much. If you haven't already seen it, I posted a sneak peak of my fit the other day. The feedback was filled with great energy, although, there was a comment that caught me off guard. It was something along the lines of, “Shenell, you look like a spy or even detective.”Ahaha, I am not exactly sure where that idea...

Crown of Thorns

Amongst the list of things that warms my heart, I get to share two with you, wrapped in a combo. The Son of God is one and a black artisan is the other. Let’s cut to the chase. The star of my whole outfit is this dynamic hat! When I first placed eyes on it, I knew there was no way all this glory was going to pass me up. All I can remember is, purse, wallet, debit card, and order complete! In that order. As an artist myself, I indulge in the craft of others. “The key to a great artisan is his or her ability to create a masterpiece that tells a story without a narrator”- Shenell. In...

Slippin Back In

Yes, I am totally blowing the dust off this blog, lol! Girl, I’ve missed you. I thank you for sticking around in my absence. Your loyalty is real and most appreciated. With all that has happened in the world you are still connecting. That’s not easy to do. So many people isolate in times like these. As a believer, I know God is gracious despite the horrific challenges 2020 has offered us. I think this year has shown our resilience and ability to press through as individuals and collectively. We are stronger than we think. So many of you dm’d me just to check on my well-being. Having a tribe like you reminds me that we are in this together,...

Laudi Vidni x SoShenell

Hey Girl! Yes, it has been a minute, no doubt. In my absence, you have been on my mind. I am making a few shifts that I can’t explain right now. Sometimes when waiting on things to manifest, you have to move in silence as it is still fragile. In essence, my neglect is temporary, I will be back. So now, I have had a few chances to actually put on clothes aside from the weekly black uniform needed for work. This outfit is one I had to share. I did a collab with a contemporary luxury line here in Chicago, Laudi Vidni, it means individual spelled backward. That is crazy dope, right? They gifted me this amazing organic leather bag...

Seed Planting

So, am I the only one who was trying to remember whether or not Joshua had a tree? No, he didn’t but he planted many seeds. Speaking of which, that’s what I’ve been doing. All summer I’ve been shifting and restructuring to stop clocking into other people’s empires and making them great. The shift has taken some lifestyle changes and some consecrated focusing. Oh, how I’ve missed you dearly; it feels good to peek in and say- hello. Thank you to all who came through the DM checking on me. Just know I got two years to make some things shake. One of the hardest things is to plant seeds you’ve never planted before. Once you’ve planted that which you’ve never...

The Dialogue

The Dialogue   Him: You’re so pretty but I’ve never talked to a big girl before. Me: I’m sorry did you think this was your opportunity?   “What in the heck is he doing?” “Girl, this his third time circling this counter.”  My coworker Justine spotted dude last week checking me out. Working for MAC, we often got creepers who shopped through pretty girls like meat. I swear men were worse than our customers. Customers would literally scan our faces as they approached the counter. Now, when you’re well into your 8th year as an artist, you become a master at predicting their thoughts because their body language tells every time- it’s hilarious but weird as hell. It’s like they used some type of laser alert radar...
