Sumissura

If you’ve shopped at Chanel, Gucci, or Christian Louboutin, you understand what it means to be treated with the upmost detail and respect. As a person who has been afforded the luxuries of life and who can occasionally splurge on a $2,000 or more item, I have high expectations in brands I shop with. When Sumissura reached out to me I was elated to work with them. They are a size inclusive brand that aim to please you with a tailored fit. A brand that prides themselves on fit accuracy gets an A in my book. I was overwhelmed with the many fabric options and cut that it took me a week to decide on how I was going to...

Abstract Perspective

Come on in, come on in! I know you're here for all the detail goodies, but first, can we chat about it?! As mentioned in my IG caption, I love giving you so much to see at once. Fashion is nothing shy of art. Think about it, you are mixing paints, texture, and patterns, all on a 4D canvas. It sets the mood and tone when people see you. Their compliments and stares are a testament to that. How did you feel when you saw me in this look? Girl, let me tell you, I call this look the Abstract Perspective because the outfit renders fluid complexity. Although it flows, there are so many contrasting components that has your eyes jumping around...

Editorial Flash

It is impossible to go unnoticed when you're dressed like this. Do you believe, how you dress determines who and what you attract? Well it’s so true. What you wear projects your character. The feeling you get when you are fashionably expressing yourself can not be described. Every woman has the right to be distinct, look unique, and own it. This outfit does just that for me. Girl, LET-ME-TELL-YOU! What you see here is a masterpiece. It took God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit to sculpt this dunamis creation of a human. I take my existence personal, and I clothe it in the best. Macy’s I.N.C brand did a superb job with this faux leather drama sleeve blazer-BRAVO! But...

Rhythm In The Mix

It’s that moment you’re strolling on Instagram and see an item YOU GOTTA HAVE! You have no earthly idea exactly what you’re gonna do with it but whatever it is, it needs to be epic. Do you feel me right now? Girl, these slacks are it! When I got home, I laid them out on my bed for 4 or 5 days. I typically do this to allow myself to see what the garment-any garment, is asking me to do with it. "What you want to do with a particular garment never trumps what the garment calls for". Although, I had not yet known what other garments would accompany such an in-your-face type of pattern, by day 3, at minimum,...

My Outerwear Is My Outfit

Hey Ladies! I know some of you have been waiting all day for this post. Trust, I am so ready to share why it's important to put your outerwear to a multi-use fashion kill. Let's be real, unless you live in Chicago, you buy these coats for a two to three month wear. Considering we are living in a pandemic, some of us have hardly worn a coat at all. Nevertheless, we spend a fair amount of money on a seasonal piece that seems one-dimensional. In my style book, it is far from one-dimensional. A coat is an open dress. A dress. Depending on the length it could be a mini, and classic knee-length, and most definitely and mysterious ankle toucher....

Nothing To Be Played With

Some garments remind you of how bad you are in the world. This look did that for me. For starters, this color blocking is the diagram for a color theory class, honey. I can hear the teacher saying; “Turn to chapter 5 in your text. The lesson is on, how to color block like, SoShenell!" As far as color, it is all about showcasing the primaries. Yes, red and blue are primary colors that can be perfectly married in an outfit. Although, visually, they graciously fight for attention. I mean, do you blame them, one is cold and the other is hot, but don’t forget opposites attract. I have this awkward obsession with the gravitational pull of two contrasting entities;...

In Ah- Line Ment

Hey Girl, yes, can you believe we are literally in December. It seems the year started in slow motion  & within a snap is was enigmatic. Gosh, this year was a journey. I can not say I’m ready to step out of this year, but I am hoping I’m equipped for next. This year definitely aligned people we were all forced to step out of our comfort zones. For some, it was the biggest breakthrough of their lives and for others, it was mere heartbreak. Either way, you must trust the Father. I do. Speaking of alignment, this blouse, these pants, this look! Yeah, it’s a bit more on the simple casual work side for me. At the same time, I...

The Layered Trench

Hey Girl, Its been a few weeks since I’ve returned to blogging. I hope I haven’t disappointed you. I’m pretty proud of what I’ve been bringing. So, as you can see, I decided to go the casual route. This is not my typical style sense. I usually feel under-dressed every time I attempt to curate a casual look. This time, not so much. If you haven't already seen it, I posted a sneak peak of my fit the other day. The feedback was filled with great energy, although, there was a comment that caught me off guard. It was something along the lines of, “Shenell, you look like a spy or even detective.”Ahaha, I am not exactly sure where that idea...

Classic Grandeur

Look girl, did you know polka dots pranced itself into the fashion world during the late Victorian era? Then in the 1920s it strutted itself into the fashion scene, making a loud fuss. Not to toot my own horn (uh-oh did you hear that lol), but I'd swear I was the creator of the pattern. These polka dots are hitting me like a second skin, sweetie. I love my co-ord set from Halogen. Classic attire promises to satisfy a cinched but curved silhouette. In essence, empire waist dresses, waist length tops, and pencil or swing skirts, in particular, were a style structure that was meant to do what girdles did in the 16 to late 1800s- and even in today’s...

The Dialogue

The Dialogue   Him: You’re so pretty but I’ve never talked to a big girl before. Me: I’m sorry did you think this was your opportunity?   “What in the heck is he doing?” “Girl, this his third time circling this counter.”  My coworker Justine spotted dude last week checking me out. Working for MAC, we often got creepers who shopped through pretty girls like meat. I swear men were worse than our customers. Customers would literally scan our faces as they approached the counter. Now, when you’re well into your 8th year as an artist, you become a master at predicting their thoughts because their body language tells every time- it’s hilarious but weird as hell. It’s like they used some type of laser alert radar...
