Rhythm In The Mix

It’s that moment you’re strolling on Instagram and see an item YOU GOTTA HAVE! You have no earthly idea exactly what you’re gonna do with it but whatever it is, it needs to be epic. Do you feel me right now? Girl, these slacks are it! When I got home, I laid them out on my bed for 4 or 5 days. I typically do this to allow myself to see what the garment-any garment, is asking me to do with it. "What you want to do with a particular garment never trumps what the garment calls for". Although, I had not yet known what other garments would accompany such an in-your-face type of pattern, by day 3, at minimum,...

My Outerwear Is My Outfit

Hey Ladies! I know some of you have been waiting all day for this post. Trust, I am so ready to share why it's important to put your outerwear to a multi-use fashion kill. Let's be real, unless you live in Chicago, you buy these coats for a two to three month wear. Considering we are living in a pandemic, some of us have hardly worn a coat at all. Nevertheless, we spend a fair amount of money on a seasonal piece that seems one-dimensional. In my style book, it is far from one-dimensional. A coat is an open dress. A dress. Depending on the length it could be a mini, and classic knee-length, and most definitely and mysterious ankle toucher....

In Ah- Line Ment

Hey Girl, yes, can you believe we are literally in December. It seems the year started in slow motion  & within a snap is was enigmatic. Gosh, this year was a journey. I can not say I’m ready to step out of this year, but I am hoping I’m equipped for next. This year definitely aligned people we were all forced to step out of our comfort zones. For some, it was the biggest breakthrough of their lives and for others, it was mere heartbreak. Either way, you must trust the Father. I do. Speaking of alignment, this blouse, these pants, this look! Yeah, it’s a bit more on the simple casual work side for me. At the same time, I...

The Layered Trench

Hey Girl, Its been a few weeks since I’ve returned to blogging. I hope I haven’t disappointed you. I’m pretty proud of what I’ve been bringing. So, as you can see, I decided to go the casual route. This is not my typical style sense. I usually feel under-dressed every time I attempt to curate a casual look. This time, not so much. If you haven't already seen it, I posted a sneak peak of my fit the other day. The feedback was filled with great energy, although, there was a comment that caught me off guard. It was something along the lines of, “Shenell, you look like a spy or even detective.”Ahaha, I am not exactly sure where that idea...

Classic Grandeur

Look girl, did you know polka dots pranced itself into the fashion world during the late Victorian era? Then in the 1920s it strutted itself into the fashion scene, making a loud fuss. Not to toot my own horn (uh-oh did you hear that lol), but I'd swear I was the creator of the pattern. These polka dots are hitting me like a second skin, sweetie. I love my co-ord set from Halogen. Classic attire promises to satisfy a cinched but curved silhouette. In essence, empire waist dresses, waist length tops, and pencil or swing skirts, in particular, were a style structure that was meant to do what girdles did in the 16 to late 1800s- and even in today’s...

Crown of Thorns

Amongst the list of things that warms my heart, I get to share two with you, wrapped in a combo. The Son of God is one and a black artisan is the other. Let’s cut to the chase. The star of my whole outfit is this dynamic hat! When I first placed eyes on it, I knew there was no way all this glory was going to pass me up. All I can remember is, purse, wallet, debit card, and order complete! In that order. As an artist myself, I indulge in the craft of others. “The key to a great artisan is his or her ability to create a masterpiece that tells a story without a narrator”- Shenell. In...

Seed Planting

So, am I the only one who was trying to remember whether or not Joshua had a tree? No, he didn’t but he planted many seeds. Speaking of which, that’s what I’ve been doing. All summer I’ve been shifting and restructuring to stop clocking into other people’s empires and making them great. The shift has taken some lifestyle changes and some consecrated focusing. Oh, how I’ve missed you dearly; it feels good to peek in and say- hello. Thank you to all who came through the DM checking on me. Just know I got two years to make some things shake. One of the hardest things is to plant seeds you’ve never planted before. Once you’ve planted that which you’ve never...

5th Blogiversary

Wow 5 years and a sweet one it's been. I've learned so much in this blogosphere, some sweet and some bitter. I just smile at how I've grown in my way of thinking as blogger. Let's go down memory lane. I remember when I became a blogger I took hours gathering boggers who I respected greatly and enjoyed either their sense of fashion or how they appeared to be so boss via social media. I gathered emails to introduce myself. The intro went something like this. "Hello, my name is Shenell, I am the founder of plus fashion blog Shenell Dujour (my blog name at the time). I believe plus women should claim plus authority and one of the ways I...

Regal

Regal, a whole mood. Yeah, I’m definitely feeling my richest. If I’m not mistaken this is the first two-piece suit I’ve ever worn on my blog. I must say, I love it. ASOS did a great job with this bowtie print burnt orange suit. One thing I found necessary was to continue to up the feminine tone the suit displays. Let me tell you what's crazy. When I paired the bow tie suit with the bow tie blouse, it wasn’t until after this shoot, I realized I was “coordinating” in my John Witherspoon voice. I guess I can say  I'm really tying the knot on bows in this look. Together the look announced its luxurious colonial appearance. It honestly just kinda...
